Moving In

I made it to Indian Creek and I'm camped in Creek Pasture Campground

The first few days have been great, as they always are in this place. No matter what I'm doing here, I'm always happy and grateful.

Today and yesterday I took as rest days. The weather isn't great for this weekend, but that just gives me time to catch up on photo editing and organizing my new "home".
Since the weather may not be great for a couple of days, myself and Dan are going to hang out in town and then try to hit some boulders tomorrow or Tuesday.
There's an 80' horizontal hand-sized roof crack that one can boulder--I'd really like to try it. If we don't go there (it's called The Crack House) then we may do some bouldering just outside of town.

So, I'll skip the minutiae and just say that after getting myself setup and into the routine of life here, I'm very happy. I will give an overview of what that routine consists of, however.

A typical day would be: waking up after the sun rises, usually earlier in the morning if it's a warm day, later in the morning if it's cold. Everyone basically lets their body be the guide and alarm clock. We're all usually up by 10AM.
Everyone cooks breakfast, arranges gear and makes last minute decisions on where to climb within about an hour after everyone's awake.
We're usually loaded into vehicles and on our way to the crag for the day by 11 or 11:30AM.
Every crag at the Creek has an approach hike that's about 10 or 15 minutes of steep uphill walking. I enjoy those hikes as a part of the ritual. They're really not the bad, but with a heavy pack (I'm guessing mine is 30-40lbs) they'll get the blood flowing.
Everyone climbs until they've had their share. Some climb more than others, some climb harder than others, but everyone usually (not always) reaches the end of their day within 5 hours.
After packing up, heading back down the trail and driving back to camp, we seem to be getting back between 5 and 6PM.
I took a nice half hour jog on a back trail the first day. And I intend to do some exercise besides climbing on a frequent basis to stay in shape.
Supper is a nice time of the evening, everyone is in high spirits and it's nice to sit down and recount the day's activities and plan tomorrow's.
The temperatures have been very pleasant and with a campfire, it's enjoyable to stay up until about 10 or 11PM, but we're usually too tired to stay up much later, in any case.

That's more or less the gig. Every day brings something different mixed with the familiar. People come and people go, and there's always new faces around the fire and at the cliffs.

It's cool to see strong climbers working the same routine, if not the same routes.
Apparently, there's a group of climbers including Hayden Kennedy and Matt Segal that are working some 5.14 project. They're camped right next to us.
To me, it's illustrative of an observation; that we're all similar in our endeavors, if not our abilities.

Lastly, for now, I have been asked for pictures, and I'm excited for pictures as well, but I'm behind in editing pictures from a prior adventure, so it will be a little while before I can catch up, although I hope to make a noticeable dent in the backlog today.
I also want to work on customizing this blog, so It may be a while before you see any photos.

D-Day -1

Today is a hectic day.
Today, I will finish my preparations for my summer adventures.
That means I need to finish packing all of my things, and I need to be prepared--prepared in the sense that I need to be ready to live on almost no money for the next couple of weeks.
Thanks to a tip from a friend; last night I went dumpster diving with my roommate Mark, and we got a great haul that's going to to help me out for the next week or more. We found 12 loaves of (awesome) black pepper asiago cheese bread, a frozen dinner and a frozen appetizer!
There are lots of things I would like to do today, but I will only be able to do a few of them. I'm going to go to the gym to say goodbye (to the gym and the people) and for the first time I'm going to sit down with my roommates to drink a beer with them. It will be the first time I've drank an entire beer--ever.

I've started this blog as a means for people who are interested, to keep a pulse on my whereabouts and activities. I don't think what I do or who I am warrants a blog, but the fact that I will be out of communication in almost every other way does.
I'm going to post updates as I am able to, and I hope to add some longer essays on subjects that people often ask me about, such as how I got started toward this day, and some basic autobiographic information.

I'd like to make a bigger splash, but for now, I have important things to accomplish on this day, so that I am able and prepared to accomplish better things on the days succeeding.
